I am working on a xp pro sp2 system. when i go into the internet explorer
security setting for the internet zone, custom settings and default level is
disabled and security is set to medium. when i try to change the settings it
will not let me change it to below medium or make custom settings.

I know you can manually change them in the registy under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings, but i would
rather not change them there. Is there a stting the disables the ablitiy to
make custom settings in IE?

Hi,
First question: Are you running any security programs that might have placed
this restriction?

Next, run regedit and search for these values (right pane)
Security_options_edit
Security_HKLM_only
Security_options_edit
Security_zones_map_edit
SecChangeSettings
A value of 1 (one) would enable the restriction. A value of 0 (zero) would
disable it.
These restrictions will probably be in one of these keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explore
r

I think it has adware, and spybot on it. Why i have no idea, not my machine.
people would not have a problem with spyware and other things if they would
not go where they should not. anyway, thanks for the stuff to try. I should
know in the next couple of days if it works.

thanks again.

Did you ever come up with a solution for making changes to IE6, changing custom security settings for the Internet zone? I am also having this problem and nothing seems to work.
